Acceptance

The Acceptance card embodies the power of embracing reality as it is—without resistance, denial, or judgment. Here’s an exact breathing method so you can let go and find relaxation anytime. The next time you feel stress building inside—whether you’re pressured at work or running out of time—simply close your eyes and turn your attention…

to your breathing. Feel the expanding and contracting of your lungs as you get into the rhythm of your inhales and exhales. Don’t try to change your breathing pattern; simply acknowledge how it is and follow it. Whether your breathing is deep or shallow, nose or mouth, fast or slow, just accept your breathing as it is. There’s nothing to do right; there’s nothing you can do wrong. Again, just focus on your breathing and accept it as it is. It’s like looking up at the clouds floating across the sky or watching the waves at the beach rolling in and rolling out. Just accept your breathing however it is. After just a few breaths, you’ll be in a more relaxed and comfortable state, and your stress will have gotten so small it may have disappeared entirely.

Practice these let-go breaths daily, even if just for a moment before you turn on your computer or sit down for dinner. This exercise is also a starting point to many of the others in this book. Soon, you’ll come to trust that with more awareness and acceptance, you can breathe your way through anything.
